Longtime Wellesley resident Mildred Goodman proved that 95 is just a number when she celebrated her birthday on Feb. 1. The first to move into an apartment here at Wellesley, Mildred has spent her past six years enjoying the active and dynamic lifestyle at our community. “It’s been fabulous,” said her daughter, Lynne. “She loves it!”
Mildred is a lover of music and dance. Since moving here, she’s taken advantage of the rich cultural offerings in Wellesley and Boston, attending as many shows as she can. She also enjoys the numerous musical activities at our community and is especially fond of frequent Wellesley performers Jack Craig, a pianist and singer, and pianist Sunny Lee. In addition to music, Mildred enjoys playing bingo with her friends and can often be found watching movies with them in the media room and theater.
Prior to Wellesley, she lived in an apartment where her daughter said there was no one around to keep her company. Her move to Waterstone allowed her to expand her social circle. Lynne said, “People are very friendly here, and she loves the staff – they’re so warm and welcoming.” Lynne loves that her mom can easily navigate our community without feeling overwhelmed but still has access to a wealth of amenities. “It’s the perfect combination,” Lynn said. Mildred has made lifelong friends since moving here. “Her life is easy, happy and upbeat,” said Lynn.
To celebrate her birthday, Mildred’s family sponsored our weekly happy hour. All our residents were invited to attend, and Mildred’s children and grandchildren came into town for the event as well. Sunny Lee performed at the happy hour, and the linens and flowers matched Mildred’s favorite colors: lilac and pink. We’re so happy we got to celebrate such a special occasion with such a special woman. Happy Birthday, Mildred!
