Music and more on the horizon

This week is the start of a new month with new events to enjoy. Tomorrow, we’ll kick off the week’s events with an interesting discussion on Katharine Gibbs, the founder of the famous Katharine Gibbs School.

To lead the talk, the author Rose Doherty is visiting to discuss her book, “Katharine Gibbs: Beyond White Gloves.” The book details the life of Katharine Gibbs, who created the secretarial training school the Katharine Gibbs School in the early twentieth century. While the school has expanded to several locations and now includes male students, it opened as a place for women to learn secretarial skills, like typing and note-taking, at a time when the majority of women were not in the workforce.

Doherty is a former Assistant Dean and Director of Liberal Arts and Criminal Justice programs at Northeastern University’s University College.

Then, we’re excited to end the week with some musical numbers.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Dave Becker and the Rob Natoli Trio are visiting to continue the musical concerts next week. Becker, a popular performer in the Boston area and no stranger to Waterstone at Wellesley, will visit Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, the Rob Natoli Trio is visiting to play jazz standards. The trio frequently plays jazz for seniors across Massachusetts. They also enjoy playing big band music of the 1920s and 30s.
