Jazz, Cabaret and Cuban culture at Waterstone

We’re enjoying the change in weather in Wellesley, and often find this time of year to be particularly inspiring. Whether you’re motivated to exercise more, learn about a new subject or simply wish to take inspiration from the arts, we hope you can join us for some or all of our October events.

For anyone looking to improve their emotional and physical health, Paula Sullivan of Tai Chi New England will lead total wellness classes on four select Wednesdays in October. Tai chi is a gentle way to promote serenity, improve balance and reduce stress. Sullivan’s first session is on Oct. 5. See below for the full list of dates.

In October, we will also host two different jazz performances — one by the pianist Larry Buckley and another by Stardust Duo, a husband and wife group. Buckley is a longtime performer who enjoys playing solo jazz, while the Stardust Duo have been performing jazz together since 2008. The duo is made up of Amanda Smith Roberts, a violinist, and Jonathan Roberts, a pianist.

Movie musical fans will also want to sit in on Dan Kimmel’s discussion of “Cabaret,” the 1972 hit directed by Bob Fosse. The film stars Liza Minnelli as a cabaret performer in Berlin during the rise of the Nazi party. Kimmel is a community favorite and has been providing residents with interesting insight into classic films for years.

In early October, you’ll also be able to learn more about Cuban culture in a fascinating presentation led by Prof. Marco Mena, who teaches humanities at Massachusetts Bay Community College. Mena will provide attendees with a thoughtful look at how Cuban culture and society has changed over the years.

For full details for all of these events, see below. We hope to see you soon!
